Section 4: Old Letter from C.R. Franks of Marion Co., AL
This letter was written by C.R. Franks (born 1872) in 1961 when he
was 88 or 89 years old. I would like to correspond with anyone
with information on the Franks Family of Marion, AL and
Itawamba, MS.
“All I can say about my Grandfather’s brothers is only from
memory as to names spoken of by my father. He said my
grandfather had eight brothers, one Charles Franks, Jacob Franks,
Elisha Franks, John Franks, Jeremiah franks and Joseph Franks.
For descendants of Joseph Franks you might contact Eupal Franks,
Hamilton, AL, he is a grandson of Joseph Franks; and for the
children of my father’s brothers and sisters, contact Eckford
Warren, grandson of Abigail Warren, two of her daughters married
one to John Smith and the other to Jeff Smith and moved to
Oklahoma about 60 years ago, for Elisha Franks, contact Hoyett
Pearce, Hamilton, Alabama’ he is a great-great-grandson of Elisha
Franks. The last I know of Harriet Sleety Franks Low was they
lived at Spruce Pine, Franklin County, Alabama. Tennessee Franks
Westbrooks, contact Emet Westbrooks, Sumiter, Alabama. Isac
Lemuel reed and wife Anita Reed, Hamilton, Alabama, Rt. 2. You
have my children on a seperate sheet. That’s about all I can give
you at this time. You might get additional information by writing
V.L. Franks, Russelville, Alabama, and Sam King, Hodges,
Alabama, Rt. 2, his mother was a Franks of near Rome, Georgia.
This is about all that I can give at this time. The Franks were
everywhere in Marion County, Alabama in the 1820’s some of them
homesteaded lands in the County in the early Settlement of Alabama
Territory and Alabama State, many were with Andrew Jackson in
War of 1812 and in the Indian Wars against the Indians and after
the battle of New Orleans settled permanently here in 1815. I could
get some information of records at Court House and cemeteries if I
had a way of getting around or was able to hire a conveyance. The
only way of getting from place to place is by my children carrying
me around and too the weather is bad for me to get out very much,
but I will continue to help when I can under the circumstances. I
would appreciate a run down on all the information you have in
addition of what is enclosed. I still have a very good memory and
am in very good health. I lost my wife September the 19th just past
and am now in my daughters Ruth M. Parsons at 3123 Avenue b,
Birmingham 8, Alabama, but will be in Hamilton about the 1st of
every month and get my mail there and if away will be forwarded to
me whereever I may be located. I appreciate your letter and want to
cooperate in every way possible. C.R. Franks Post Office Box 395
